How you can make use of dashcams to support your fleet

Nov 28, 2021

Dashcams can be used to provide evidence in the case of accidents, provide security for your company and employees, as well as serve as a deterrent against theft. The most important thing to consider when installing a dashcam is where it will be mounted - as there are several different options for mounting cameras inside vehicles: dashboard, windscreen, rear-view mirror, and even headrests.

There's no right or wrong answer here - remember that if your camera isn't positioned correctly, then you might not capture all of the footage that happens during your drive.

Making use of dashcams to support your fleet

  • The first place to mount a dashcam is on the windscreen of the vehicle. This will give you better visuals and audio as well as more protection for your camera in case of an accident or collision (if you are using it as evidence). Make sure that it is mounted securely, does not obstruct your view, and has full suction capabilities.

A dashboard mount can also be used if preferred but make sure that there isn't any glare or reflection from light coming off the screen, or else this could affect vision while driving at night time.

It records everything in front of it and captures important events such as accidents, road rage incidents, or near misses. It's an excellent way for fleet operators to monitor their drivers' driving habits, ensure safety standards are being met, and protect themselves from lawsuits if they're negligent in managing their fleet.

  • The dashcams can also be mounted on the driver's side window or on the dashboard to monitor what is happening inside the vehicle's cabin. In this way, fleet operators can monitor the behavior of drivers on the road. This is done by capturing video footage of drivers' actions while driving, and it can help train new drivers or supervise existing ones.

  • It can also be installed on the rear side and side mirrors of the vehicle, providing valuable footage that helps in resolving accidents, incidents, and disputes.  A major pro of placing these cameras outside the vehicle is that you'll have unblocked views.

A lot of people are using them because these cameras have an incredibly wide field of view (FOV) which allows fleet operators to capture everything happening around the vehicle as well as provide evidence in case something happens on the field.

They come with a wide variety of features, such as motion detection, night vision capability, and high-definition video recording. Modern dash cams come with GPS tracking capabilities which makes it easy for fleet operators to keep track of their vehicles at all times. Keeping tabs on what your employees do during company hours will ensure they stay productive and drive safely at all times.

These cameras are typically used for capturing video footage during car accidents or other incidents, but they also come with many different features such as GPS tracking, collision detection, lane departure warning system, and speed limit warnings amongst others. Dashcam footage is admissible in court too, which makes it a powerful tool for both personal use and business purposes.
